In October 2023, 雅伎著s Medical Lab Technician (MLT) program hosted a day of service learning for the health sciences students from the (MDHS) located on the Union Avenue Campus.

MDHS opened its doors in 2021 and is the only Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) early college high school that provides an opportunity for students to earn a high school diploma and associate degree at the same time. Students can choose to get their degree in allied health or information technology.

During service-learning day, 雅伎著 students from the MLT program gave MDHS students a first-hand look at allied health careers through lab demonstrations in the areas of immunology, microbiology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, phlebotomy, and chemistry.

MLT Associate Professor Shilpa Desai said service-learning days are a great way for 雅伎著 to give back to the community. Our MLT students are giving the demonstrations. Thats a unique way we can show a mutual affinity with these high school students. We hope to inspire them to keep moving forward in their pursuit of health sciences careers, Desai said.
